Kevin Andrew Morris is a Glasgow based artist whose work encompasses sculpture, ceramics, installation and material processes.
He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Ceramic Design in 2010 from Glasgow School of Art. He has since gone on to exhibit his work nationally and internationally as well as work with a range of artists, institutions and work on various public projects.
"The idea of object, material and environment is central to my work, be the objects found or placed in a natural environment or within our own man made habitats. How we interact within our world and our attempts to contain, harness or even contribute to it though objects is exciting to me, I try to translate this in the work I do at the moment
Working within archival and heritage based projects has been central to my current work and development. My recent work engages with concepts of craft, material and place, initially motivated by an investigation of my own family heritage and material culture. Ultimately my current work looks to encourage its audience to consider how they interact with their own habitats, be they man made or natural, as well our collective connections to heritage and tradition. This connection with heritage has translated into other recent projects and it would be my intention to explore the environment of Bowling Harbour in this way.
Kevin aims to research Bowling Harbour’s association within shipping, whisky and glass making to develop a series of new works in ceramics, glass and print. These would be achieved through traditional and modern means of fabrication including 3D scanning/printing as well as creating replicas of objects through other means such as mould making and slip casting. He hopes to utilise objects associated with industry found on the river shore, such as bricks and glass, and adapt, modify or take inspiration from these structures.
